Star Wars resort coming to Disney World

Disney World vacationers will one day have the opportunity for an all-encompassing Star Wars experience, from hotel to theme park.

Every Star Wars fan knows the park attraction is coming in 2019 (the 14-acre land at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando now has an official name, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge). A Florida resort is coming, too, and Disney touts it as a "one-of-a-kind experience where a luxury resort meets a multi-day adventure in a galaxy far, far away."

One rendering shows a lobby bar reminiscent of the Cantina from "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," though not as dark and presumably not filled with scum and villainy. There are droids moving about. Guests and staff are in costumes. One might guess there will be cocktails made with blue milk

Another rendering depicts a space similar to the war room where the Rebel Alliance was briefed on the Battle of Endor from "Return of the Jedi." And another shows a guestroom that looks like sleeping quarters you might find on the Millennium Falcon.

"It's unlike anything that exists today," Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek said at the Disney Fan Club's D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif. "From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story. You'll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits."

Disney told fans to keep their eye on the Disney Parks Blog in the coming months for updates on the Star Wars resort, including an opening date.
